My 2yr old and 7 month old are really drawn to this story, with the repetitive text, rhythm, illustrations, and figurative language. My 2yr old has started "reading" the book by herself, by turning to each age and saying "Mama Why." The story itself is wonderful, but the illustrations really bring it to life.

I would highly recommend this book/5(13). A beautifully illustrated rhyming bedtime book. "when the moon sails high in the arctic sky, Polar Cub asks, 'Mama, why?'" Mama proceeds to answer her cub's many questions about the night. The stars tell tales to the moon - "of princes, pirates and queens, of palaces, kingdoms, and magical scenes."/5.

Bought this as a Mother's Day gift and am in the process of filling it out. The book has a hard cover and a nice weight to it. I'm using a regular pen to fill it out but the pages are thick and probably wouldn't bleed through if you used a gel pen or something similar.

I like that the book had a few ideas in the back for ways to fill it out/5(). This book may not be for everyone but it sure was good. I've always liked Terry McMillan's writing but hadn't heard of this one till now.

Terry writes with such realism you feel she's telling you a story rather than you're reading one. Very rich in details that make the book come alive.

You will become fascinated trying to understand Mama & her /5(). When three nasty poor white children mock Momma from the yard one afternoon, Maya watches furiously, but Momma maintains her dignity by not even acknowledging their taunts.
